1st Sino European Pig Industry Webinar

The 1st Pig Industry Webinar concluded with over 150 participants from 26 Countries. Participants from USA, Germany, Netherlands, France, Spain, Russia, Brazil, Canada, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam joined the first in series of webinars for animal farming professionals organized by EuroTier China. This webinar looked at the state of the pork industry in Europe and China, the challenges the opportunities currently facing the industry and insights in to what lies on the horizon.

Participants from USA, Germany, Netherlands, France, Spain, Russia, Brazil, Canada, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam joined the first in series of webinars for animal farming professionals organized by EuroTier China. This webinar looked at the state of the pork industry in Europe and China, the challenges the opportunities currently facing the industry and insights in to what lies on the horizon.

Key points included:

  • Implementing a high level of hygiene standards in production is the need of the hour in order to combat the effects of ASF and COVID-19 and ensure sustainable levels of production of pork in the future.
  • Pork demand in China decreased by 17% in 2020, shortfall in production levels is still higher – highlighting the gap between local demand and supply of pork.
  • EU regulations on pig meat slaughtering and ASF reaching European countries saw pig meat production decrease by 2.6% in 2020. EU however still remains one of the largest pig meat exporters in the world alongside the U.S. Canada and Brazil.
  • New regulations such as the ban of the use of antibiotics in animal production present new challenges and opportunities to the pork production industry in the region.
  • Changes towards large scale farming, use of new technology and feed substitutes the way forward for pork production in China however the challenges of testing, high prices persist.
